CEU Course Description

In a 2021 nationwide survey of parents, students, and employers, 7 out of 10 (70%) students reported that high school has “somewhat” prepared them to succeed in college, while only 2 out of 10 (20%) students reported that high school has prepared them to enter the workforce, or the real world (Mays, 2021).  With the needs of students constantly evolving, the role of schools and teachers in preparing students for the future must also change.  As such, schools and teachers alike must adapt their practices to best prepare students to succeed in the 21st century real world. In this course, participants will learn about (1) where schools are currently falling short of preparing students for the future; (2) how schools can best prepare students for not only college, but also careers and civic life; (3) the importance of soft skills in preparing for the future; (4) research and outlooks on the future of education.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Identify ways that schools can best prepare students for the future
  2. Summarize where schools are failing to prepare students
  3. Define soft skills and their importance in the real world
  4. Describe major trends and outlooks on the future of education
