Course Description

This brief beginning level course is designed to give adolescent girls a practical overview of healthy eating and physical activity goals that they can apply to their daily lives. It was developed using material from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Ad­ministration and covers tips and ideas to help young ladies maintain a healthy lifestyle. The course is appropriate for educators and other professionals who are interested in helping this population meet their nutritional and fitness needs.

Course Objectives

1. Discuss ideas to help adolescent girls set simple goals for improved physical activity and healthy eating.

2. Differentiate between moderate and vigorous-intensity physical activities and those that are designed to improve strength.

3. Outline practical tips for incorporating physical fitness and healthy eating into everyday life.

4. Identify specific nutritional needs for young ladies including recommended servings from each food group.
