CEU Course Description

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, students must feel safe before they are able to learn. They also need the sheer energy it takes to concentrate on increasingly-complex subject matter and to perform on a daily basis. Logically, therefore, we need to start considering both health and safety as non-negotiable prerequisites of a successful education. Studies back this up, showing us with hard data that prioritizing health and safety initiatives is correlated with happier, more productive students—and even higher grades and other markers of success. In this course, we’ll discuss just why health and safety is so integral in the school experience. We’ll also talk about the disparity between where we are and where we should be, and brainstorm practical ways to improve our schools’ health and safety initiatives.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Define the objectives and standards of a safe, healthy school
  2. Discuss the importance of safety and health in successful education
  3. Outline the differing ways in which parents, teachers, and administrators can help build safe and healthy schools
  4. Realize the state of school safety and health in America right now
  5. Go over the practical steps of building school safety and health plans
  6. Talk about how to protect the health and safety of remote students
