CEU Course Description

School readiness is at the foundation of early childhood programs across the country.  School readiness means that children have the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to be successful in school.  School readiness can be explored through five domains defined by the Office of Head Start (OHS): approaches to learning, social and emotional development, language and literacy, cognition, and perceptual, motor and physical development. In this course, participants will learn (1) the domains of school readiness; (2) how interpersonal experiences and environmental factors affect brain development; and (3) the connection between development in the first three years of life and the school readiness domains.  

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Define “school readiness” for infants and toddlers
  2. Identify the basic principles/domains of infant/toddler school readiness
  3. Summarize the school readiness domains
  4. Explain how early interpersonal experiences affect brain development
  5. Summarize the connection between development first three years of life and the school readiness domains
