CEU Course Description
Ethical and Cultural Competency in K–12 Education equips educators with the knowledge, skills, and reflective practices needed to navigate ethical challenges and foster cultural responsiveness in diverse classrooms. As classrooms reflect an increasing range of cultures, languages, identities, and experiences, it is essential for teachers to understand their ethical responsibilities and develop the cultural competence necessary to support all students equitably. In this course, educators will explore foundational concepts of ethics and cultural competence, examine the impact of implicit bias on teaching and learning, and learn strategies to build inclusive and affirming classroom environments. Participants will analyze real-world ethical dilemmas, study effective communication with families from diverse backgrounds, and reflect on their own practices to enhance equity, fairness, and integrity in their professional roles. Throughout this course, participants will learn about 1) the importance of ethical and cultural competency in supporting student success, 2) practical strategies for culturally responsive and equitable teaching, and 3) approaches for advocating for marginalized students.
