CEU Course Description

Even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers had tough jobs that were under-supported and largely under-appreciated. The past year has shone a spotlight on just how hard teachers work and the importance of teacher wellbeing. There were even some calls for schools to increase teacher support. We can’t move forward without schools actually providing practical support for teacher wellbeing—but what does that look like? In this course, we discuss the link between teacher health and happiness and student performance as well as the other benefits of teacher wellbeing (and repercussions of teacher burnout). We also provide case studies of schools that have upgraded their teacher support, and practical tips for administrators and teachers alike to up-level self care and provide resources that teachers critically need in order to thrive.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the importance of teacher wellbeing
  2. Delve through the recent research regarding stressors and the long-term effects of chronic stress
  3. Outline the ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for a reliable teacher support system
  4. Brainstorm and review ways in which administrators and teachers can provide more teacher support
  5. Talk about the critical need for practical self-care systems for teachers (and the entire academic community)
  6. Go over the current state of teacher wellness in the United States
  7. Understand the link between emotion management and wellbeing
  8. Review wellbeing trends for 2021 and beyond
