CEU Course Description
Addressing Bullying and Stigma for Students with Special Needs provides educators with essential knowledge and practical strategies to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying, bias, and stigma affecting students with disabilities. The course examines how bullying, microaggressions, social exclusion, stigma, and implicit bias intersect to shape students’ academic, social, and emotional experiences. Educators will explore the underlying causes of stigma and bias, learn to identify both visible and subtle signs of bullying and isolation, and implement inclusive classroom practices that promote belonging, dignity, and equity. Participants will also learn how to collaborate effectively with families and support teams to create consistent, student-centered supports. Through this course, educators will gain the tools to foster inclusive school environments where students with special needs feel safe, valued, and empowered to succeed. Throughout this course, participants will learn about 1) the nature and impact of bullying, stigma, and bias on students with special needs, 2) how to recognize both overt and subtle signs of bullying and social isolation, and 3) strategies for building inclusive, supportive classroom communities.
