CEU Course Description

Teachers are the core component of a school’s educational system. The caliber of the school and the essential student experience are primarily based on how well the teachers are able to do their job. However, it can be difficult for teachers to prioritize their workloads correctly when they do not have the support required to thrive. Administrative care for teachers at all times of the year is important for the entire school community. If adequately supported, teachers can do far more than simply educate. Taking on additional responsibilities and starting to become advisors and mentors can aid teachers in individual growth. This process can also support the entire school, including the administrative staff, the teaching staff, and the student body. These teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty are referred to as teacher leaders. Support for teacher leaders is necessary for a healthy school system. However, the initiative to become teacher leaders will always rest on each individual educator. This course will review what it takes to become a teacher leader, and how the administration of your school can help teachers make that decision.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Review the goals of a smoothly-working administration and why administrative support is necessary for happy teachers.
  2. Discuss the attributes of a teacher leader.
  3. Expand upon the definition of what it means to be a leader, and connect that to the goals of education.
  4. Examine the role of a school’s administration in assisting teachers to become teacher leaders.
  5. Explore ways for each individual teacher to invest in his or her own growth as a teacher leader.
