CE Course Description
Research shows that parent engagement in schools is closely linked to better student behavior,higher academic achievement,and enhanced social skills. This short intermediate level course, developed using information from the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, defines and describes parent engagement and identifies specific strategies and actions that schools can take to increase parent engagement. School administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and others interested in promoting parent engagement could benefit from the information presented.
CE Course Objectives
1. Define parent engagement in schools and discuss strategies that school staff can implement to increase parent involvement in school health.
2. Identify ways that districts and school staff can make a positive connection with parents and build favorable relationships with them.
3. Describe methods to sustain parent engagement by addressing the common challenges to getting and keeping parents engaged.
4. Discuss how parents, schools, and communities can work together to create an environment that facilitates the healthy development of children and adolescents.
