CE Course Description
This brief continuing education course is designed to give an overview of mental health issues facing communities while identifying ways to break down misperceptions and promote recovery. The information was taken from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services publication, Community Conversations about Mental Health, which describes innovative community-based solutions to mental health needs, with a focus on helping young people. It also describes a variety of ways in which people can facilitate their community conversations and take next steps at the local level to raise awareness about mental health and promote access to mental health services.
CE Course Objectives
1. Identify terms, facts, and research that pertain to mental health and mental illness.
2. Discuss how communities can improve prevention of mental illness, promotion of mental health, public education and awareness, early identification, treatment, and crisis response.
3. Review mental health and substance abuse issues that impact young people and the role that early life and school experiences play.
4. Outline clear steps that communities can take to address their mental health needs in a way that complements existing local activities.
